Our Vision

The founder of The USM Group, Raymond Bentinck, has had a successful career working for some of the largest software companies in the world including: Oracle, IBM, Computer Associates and Dassault Systèmes. He has also worked for specialist market leading vendors such as Verity and set up Exalead's operations in the UK, Ireland and Australia. 

He has always been interested in what made certain companies perform consistently better than their competitors. Traditional business theory suggests that this is down to these companies having the best solutions in the marketplace, employing the most experienced people and/or being better financed than their competitors. He realized that if this were true then Exalead, in the UK, would not have consistently outperformed their other subsidiaries nor replaced the market leading solutions in several Fortune 500 companies. There would also be no room for other superior performing companies such as Google, Facebook or Apple.

He knew that these companies did not always have the best solutions in the marketplace nor were they best placed to succeed but they all acted differently to their competitors. He passionately believed that if he could understand these secrets further then any company could transform themselves into a superior performing company. To his surprise, he discovered these companies used, to a greater of lesser extent, the same five major principles that tapped into why people bought their solutions over their competitors. What was more, he learned that these five principles have all been subsequently and independently demonstrated to work by the latest scientific research into how people make decisions. 

Interestingly, even subtle differences between how companies operate can have huge impacts in prospect's perceptions of their solutions and dramatically increase their success in comparison to their competitors.

This research became the foundation of what we now know as the Unified Sales Method (UMS). It brings together why people buy solutions, how companies and sales people should communicate in order to motivate people to buy their solutions and how they should act in order to ensure success.
